A 2-day, 1-night (2D1N) trip combining Wae Rebo Village and Nuca Molas Island is an intense but rewarding “land and sea” expedition from Labuan Bajo. Nuca Molas, often called the “Jurassic Park of Flores,” is a remote island featuring savannas and a lighthouse, located near the village of Dintor.

This combined 2D1N trip is a high-energy adventure designed for specific traveler profiles. Given theb2-3 hour uphill trek and the 10-12 hours of total driving over two days, it is not a “leisure” vacation.

Not Recommended For:

  • Young Children (under 8-10). While not strictly prohibited, the trek is very demanding for small legs, and there are no modern amenities or safety rails in the village.
  • People with Limited Mobility. The terrain is uneven, slippery, and involves significant elevation gain.
  • Luxury Travelers. Accommodations are communal, sleeping is on mats, and toilets are basic/shared.
  • Those with Health Constraints. This trip is not recommended for individuals with back or spinal injuries, heart problems, or pregnancy due to the rough overland roads and strenuous hiking.

Itinerary of 2 Days Nuca Molas and Wae Rebo trip.

Day 01. Labuhan Bajo – Denge village – Waerebo village

  • Start the overland trip at 7.30 – 8.30 am Local time.
  • Drive from Labuan Bajo to Denge Village for around 4- 5 hours.
  • Lunch at a local restaurant in Denge village.
  • Ride an Ojek or a motorbike from the parking area for 15 minutes to Pos 1.
  • From Pos 1 to Pos 4, walk for 45 minutes.
  • Walk from Pos 4 to Pos 7, about 1 hour. Walk to the village for 10 minutes.
  • Welcoming ceremony in the chief’s house.
  • Continued by seeing and experiencing the local community’s everyday life.
  • Dinner and stay at Mbaru Niang ( Waerebo traditional circular cone-shaped houses with unique architecture).
  • From Denge to the top of Waerebo Village, hiking will take 2-3 hours, depending on body endurance.

Wae Rebo Village - 2 days Wae Rebo and Nuca Molas

Day 02. Waerebo village – Denge – Nuca Molas – Lowok beac – Labuhan Bajo

  • Enjoy the sunrise.
  • Breakfast with locals.
  • Sightseeing around the Village
  • Trekking down from Waerebo to Pos 1 takes 2 hours. Riding a motorbike or Ojek to the parking area takes 15 minutes.
  • Takes 1 hour and 30 minutes to drive from Denge village to Nuca Molas beach. Enjoy your lunch in a local restaurant in Lembor.
  • After lunch, we will continue the trip to Nuca Molas by boat.
  • Enjoy photo stops from the boat with stunning views of Nuca Molas Island.
  • Explore Lowok Beach.
  • Continue the trip to the Nuca Molas Lighthouse.
  • Return to Labuan Bajo. Estimate 7 to 8 pm.

  • Good to know, you will ride the car for a long distance.
  • Prepare a head cushion, it’s a long drive from Labuan Bajo to Denge village.
  • After arriving at Denge Village, you should warm up.

Essential Preparation

  • Physical Fitness. This trip is physically demanding, involving both sea travel and significant trekking in a short timeframe.
  • Connectivity. There is no mobile signal or Wi-Fi in Wae Rebo.
  • Packing. Bring a small backpack with trekking shoes, a warm jacket for the cool mountain nights, and swimwear for Nuca Molas.
