Half-Day Sunset Trip (5–6 Hours). This is the standard choice for travelers who want a relaxed afternoon on the water. It focuses on the iconic “Flying Fox” phenomenon at Kalong Island. On this half-day tour, we will use local wooden boat.

Detailed itinerary – Sunset tour Komodo Island

  • 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM. Hotel pick-up and transfer to Labuan Bajo Harbor.
  • 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM. Manjarite Island. Snorkeling in crystal-clear waters to see colorful coral, tropical fish, and occasionally sea turtles or baby sharks.
  • 3:30 PM – 4:45 PM. Kelor Island. Short, steep hike to the summit for a panoramic view of the archipelago, followed by beach relaxation.
  • 5:00 PM – 6:15 PM. Kalong Island. The boat anchors as the sun sets. Witness thousands of giant fruit bats (flying foxes) emerge from the mangroves and fill the sky.
  • 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM. Return to Labuan Bajo Harbor and hotel drop-off.

  • Daily Visitor Cap. The park now enforces a strict limit of 1,000 visitors per day. It is essential to book your slot well in advance, as “walk-in” entries are no longer permitted.
  • Cash for Fees. While tour prices often cover the boat and guide, expect to pay the National Park entrance fee (approx. IDR 450,000–550,000) in cash to the authorities.

What to Bring when you join Sunset Kalong Island.

  • Gear. Sturdy walking shoes, swimwear, and a light jacket for the breezy boat ride back to Labuan Bajo after dark.
  • Protection. Reef-safe sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and insect repellent (especially for the evening bat viewing).
  • Photography. Extra batteries and a dry bag for electronics, as sunset lighting provides some of the best photography conditions in the park.
