Getting mount Rinjani is easy. Follow the steps to get the spot near Mount Rinjani. To get Mount Rinjani, you need come to Lombok island first. From Lombok Island, you can choose the type of transportation you want to go.

First, come to Lombok Island. How to get to Lombok Island?

There are three options to get to Lombok Island from Bali.

  1. Take a flight. Fly from Ngurah Rai Bali to Lombok island, daily flight available. From Lombok airport, you can grab a taxi to Senaru village or Sembalun village.
  2. Slow Ferry. Available every two hours from Padang Bai Bali to Lembar harbor. Will takes between 4-6 hours sail. From Lembar Harbor take a car to Senaru or Sembalun village. We recommend booking the transportation in advance to avoid brokers at the harbor.
  3. Fast boat. The fast boat operated daily from Padang Bay Bali to Bangsal Harbor and Senggigi. The fast boat runs twice a day, in the morning schedule and afternoon. Book in advance is a safe option.

1. Senaru Trekking Route the shadow hiking trail

The Senaru Trekking Route is the oldest, most established, and most structurally sheltered trail on Mount Rinjani, Lombok. Located on the northern slope of the mountain, it serves as the primary gateway to the spectacular Senaru Crater Rim (2,641m).

Unlike the wide-open, sun-drenched savanna plains of the Sembalun route, the Senaru trail climbs almost entirely through a dense, tropical rainforest. This provides excellent shade from the tropical sun but features massive, slick tree root networks and a humid atmosphere.

  • Starting Point: Senaru Village, North Lombok (~601 meters above sea level).
  • Primary Destination: Pelawangan Senaru Crater Rim (~2,641 meters above sea level).Distance: Approximately 9.5 kilometers from the registration gate to the rim.
  • Time Required: 6 to 8 hours of continuous, uphill hiking to reach the rim camp.
  • Difficulty Level: Moderate. It is physically demanding due to a non-stop incline, but it is less technically dangerous than Torean and less dusty than Sembalun.

What you will see?

  • The Tropical Rainforest: Towering mahogany trees, wild orchids, and dense canopies surround you for the first 5 hours of the trek, offering protection from the heat.

2. Sembalun Trekking route with a grand savanna view.

The Sembalun Trekking Route is the most popular, iconic, and reliable trail on Mount Rinjani, Lombok. Located on the eastern side of the mountain, it serves as the official and most efficient highway to the absolute summit (3,726m)

.Unlike the dense, humid rainforests of the Senaru route, Sembalun is famous for its vast, rolling gold-and-green savanna hills. This means you will enjoy panoramic views the entire day, but you will also face intense, unshaded sun exposure.

Route Overview & Technical Specs

  • Starting Point: Sembalun Lawang Village, East Lombok (~1,156 meters above sea level).
  • Primary Destination: Pelawangan Sembalun Crater Rim (~2,639 meters above sea level).
  • Distance: Approximately 10 kilometers from the trailhead to the crater rim.
  • Time Required: 6 to 8 hours of hiking on Day 1 to reach the rim camp.
  • Difficulty Level: Moderate to Hard. While the trail is clear and wide, the elevation gain is steep and the final stretch is physically punishing.

What you will see?

  • The Savanna Grasslands: The first 3 to 4 hours of the trek wind through wide, flat, and picturesque open valley plains with grazing cattle.
  • The “Seven Regrets” Hills (Bukit Penyesalan): The brutal, steep ridge system leading up to the crater rim. There are seven distinct false peaks that test your mental and physical endurance.
  • Pelawangan Sembalun (Crer Rim): The main base camp area. It offers breathtaking, clear sunset views over Segara Anak Crater Lake on one side, and the towering mountain summit on the other.

3. Torean Trekking Route – Lombok Jurassic Park

The Torean Trekking Route is the most visually spectacular and dramatic trail on Mount Rinjani, Lombok. Officially opened as an authorized trekking path in 2020, it moves through a giant, deep volcanic valley rather than the open savanna hills found on other routes.

Many hikers nickname it the “Jurassic Park” route because of its towering green canyon walls, emerald rivers, and prehistoric moss-covered rock formations.

While it is exceptionally beautiful, it is a highly technical trail with narrow ridges and steep drop-offs.

Torean Trekking Route

Route Overview & Technical Specs

  • Starting Point: Torean Village, North Lombok (~585 meters above sea level).
  • Primary Destination: Segara Anak Crater Lake (~2,000 meters above sea level).Distance: Approximately 11 to 13 kilometers one-way.
  • Time Required: 7 to 9 hours of continuous hiking to reach the lake.
  • Difficulty Level: Challenging / Technical. It requires physical stamina and intense focus.

What you will see?

  • The Torean Valley: A massive gorge formed between two giant canyon walls, tracing the ancient path of volcanic mud and river flows.
  • Penimbungan Waterfall: A jaw-dropping, 100-meter-high waterfall that plunges down a sheer cliffside into the valley below. The trail passes directly along the opposite cliff edge.
  • Aik Kalak Hot Springs: Located right where the Torean trail meets Segara Anak Lake, these natural volcanic hot springs are perfect for healing sore muscles.
