Experience Rinjani, No summit Rinjani
The 3-Day, 2-Night (3D2N) Sembalun Crater Rim trek without a summit push is a “moderate” alternative that allows you to experience the vastness of the Rinjani caldera, the Segara Anak Lake, and the hot springs without the grueling 2:00 AM summit climb.
This route typically traverses the mountain from Sembalun to Senaru, offering diverse scenery from open savannas to dense tropical rainforests.

Essential Preparation
To pull off the 3-Day Sembalun Crater Rim (No Summit) trek comfortably, you need to prep for shifting climates—from scorching savannas to near-freezing nights.
1. 2026 Mandatory Requirements
Before you even pack, ensure you meet the latest Mount Rinjani National Park regulations:
Health Certificate: You must get a medical check-up (blood pressure and basic fitness) at a clinic in Sembalun or Senaru within 24 hours of your start date.
e-Rinjani Booking: Your guide must register your passport details in the e-Rinjani system to secure one of the daily trekking slots.
2. Physical Training
Even without the summit, you will be descending and ascending 1,000m+ in a single day.
Leg Strength: Focus on lunges and squats to prepare for the steep descent into the crater lake.
Cardio: 2–3 weeks of stair-climbing or inclined treadmill walking will make the “Seven Hills of Regret” (Bukit Penyesalan) on Day 1 much more manageable.
3. Essential Gear List
The temperature at the crater rim can drop to 5°C (41°F) at night.
Clothing:Base layers: Moisture-wicking shirts (avoid cotton).
Insulation: A lightweight down jacket or heavy fleece.
Outer Shell: A windproof/waterproof jacket for the rim.
Footwear: Broken-in trekking boots with good ankle support are vital for the rocky path to the lake.
Accessories:
Headlamp: Essential for navigating the camp at night.
Trekking Poles: Highly recommended to save your knees during the long descent into Senaru on Day 3.
Swimwear: For the Aik Kalak hot springs.
4. Health & Hygiene
Hydration: Your porters will provide water, but bring electrolyte tablets to prevent cramping in the heat of the Day 1 savanna.
Sun Protection: The Sembalun side has zero shade. Use high-SPF sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat.
Altitude: Even at the rim (2,639m), some feel mild symptoms. Stay hydrated and climb at a steady, slow pace.
5. Logistics
Cash: Bring IDR for tipping your porters and guides at the end of the trek (customary range is IDR 150k–300k per hiker).
Storage: Leave your heavy suitcases at your hotel in Senaru or with your trekking organizer; only carry a 20-30L daypack.
